Functional and Sculptural Whimsy
DeAngelis Ceramics
By Artist Meshell DeAngelis
Meshell DeAngelis is a ceramic artist who creates whimsical and nature-inspired functional and sculptural forms in her studio in Weaverville, N.C.
As a young child, Meshell spent her early years in Japan and Korea; which is where she first discovered her love of the arts. She has been a resident of North Carolina for nearly 40 years.
Meshell received her degree in Arts and Fine Arts in 2010. Following her graduation, she went on to work in the Recreational Art Therapy department at the Asheville V.A. hospital. In 2018, Meshell returned to college to pursue her passion for ceramics and received an Associate’s in Applied Science in 2020 from Haywood Community College’s Professional Crafts Clay program.
With a deep love of form and function; Meshell draws from her memories, travels, and her home in the mountains of North Carolina to create her art. Meshell uses vibrant colors, textures, nature-inspired imagery, and symbolism with each unique piece to create a narrative between the work and the viewer.
